Yorkville is the Kendall County seat, and the county's main government address is on South Main Street in the city. The City's tax page is specific about sales tax districts, which makes Yorkville different from most suburbs. This page explains how Kendall County billing and assessments work, what the City says about its sales and dining taxes and the kinds of businesses and households we see here, including how a Naperville CPA firm can help.
Sales tax districts and City taxes
According to the City, Yorkville imposes a 1 percent non-home-rule sales tax, in effect since January 1, 2012. The City describes two business districts with extra sales tax: the Kendall Marketplace Business District adds 0.50 percent, and the Countryside and Downtown Business Districts add 1.00 percent. That means the sales tax on the same purchase can differ between parts of the city. We do not quote a combined rate here because it depends on location and period; the official source is the Tax Rate Finder on MyTax Illinois, and the State's own rate on general merchandise is 6.25 percent.
The City also lists an amusement tax of 3 percent on admissions and a places of eating tax, established under Ordinance 2023-21, that applies to prepared food and beverages sold for immediate consumption, including drive-through and carryout sales. Restaurants register with the City and file a monthly return. See restaurants and retail and our sales and use tax service. Retailers, manufacturers and warehouse operators should also keep their exemption and resale paperwork in order.
Kendall County property tax
Kendall County issues one bill for the year's taxes, mailed in May, payable in two equal installments, with no second bill. Late installments carry interest of 1.5 percent a month. The County does not mail an original bill to a mortgage company, so if your lender pays from escrow, ask whether they need a copy from you. The City's page illustrates that the City receives a small slice of a typical bill: in its example for the 2020 levy year, about 6 percent. Schools and other taxing bodies receive the rest.
The Kendall County assessments site publishes values by township and a final filing date for complaints; for 2026 it lists a January 1 valuation date and a required assessment level of 33.33 percent. A Tax Board of Review hears assessment appeals. An appeal tests the assessed value only. Our guide to state and local tax deductions explains the federal treatment. Our Kendall County page lists the offices.
