These terms apply to every page in the Business Laws section of this website. By reading or using the pages, you accept the terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the pages.
General information only
The Business Laws guides explain federal, Illinois and Cook County laws in plain English. They are general information. They are not legal advice, and they are not advice about your own facts.
We are a CPA firm, not a law firm
CPA Tax Payroll and Accounting Corp is a CPA firm. We are not a law firm, our staff do not give legal advice, and nothing here is an opinion about what a law means for your business. Questions about your rights, a contract, a lawsuit or a government notice belong with an attorney licensed where you do business. A CPA can help with the payroll, tax and accounting side and can work alongside your attorney.
No professional relationship
Reading these pages, using the charts or tables, or contacting us through the website does not create a client or professional relationship. We treat a client or professional relationship as beginning only when both sides have agreed to it in writing. Please do not send confidential details through the website until that has happened.
No reliance
Please do not rely on a page as the basis for a decision. Check the official sources linked on each page, and ask a qualified professional about your own situation.
Accuracy and currency
We check figures against official sources, but laws, rates, thresholds and deadlines change, sometimes in the middle of a year, and courts can pause or cancel rules. Every guide shows the date it was last reviewed. Changes after that date are not reflected, and a page can be out of date or contain mistakes. We label amounts with their year and say when a rule was unsettled when we reviewed it, but we cannot promise that a page is complete, current or free of errors.
Examples are invented
Examples, scenarios and sample numbers are made up to explain a point. They do not describe real people or businesses, and your results may differ.
Links to other websites
We link to government and other third-party websites so you can read the source. We do not control those sites, cannot promise that they stay accurate or available, and do not endorse their content. Links can break when an agency reorganizes its site.
Copyright and copying
The laws we describe, and most official government guidance, are public. What we own is our wording, the way we organize and arrange the material, and our tables, charts and slide shows, which are protected by copyright. You may read the pages, print a copy for your own use, link to them and quote a sentence or two with credit and a link back.
Without our written permission, please do not copy, republish or sell the pages. Do not scrape or bulk-download them, whether by hand, script or automated tool. Do not use them for text and data mining, to train or fine-tune an AI model, or to build a dataset. We reserve all rights, including the right to decide whether the content may be mined, and we do not give that permission by default.
How to ask for permission
Use our contact page. Tell us who you are, what you want to use, where it will appear and for how long. We reply in writing, and permission counts only if we give it in writing. Please leave confidential information out of your request.
Changes to these terms
We may update this page. The version on the website is the one that applies.
