Reviewed October 2026 · Plain-language guide

Romeoville lies entirely in Will County, south of Bolingbrook, and its village government runs an annual rebate program on the Village's share of residents' property tax bills. This page explains how that rebate works, how Will County bills and the other local taxes the Village collects, and how a Naperville CPA firm can help Romeoville households and businesses.

The Village property tax rebate

According to the Village, its Property Tax Rebate Program returned in 2026 for a third year. Owner-occupants of residential properties inside the Village can apply for a $100 rebate toward the Village portion of their property tax bill, which is $20 more than the previous year. The application period runs from September 1 through December 1, 2026. Applicants must have paid their 2025 property tax bill in full and be current on payments owed to the Village, including tickets, fines, fees and water and sewer bills. Approved applicants receive the rebate within two weeks, either by check or as a credit on a water bill. Rental properties are not eligible. The Village says it accounts for about 10 percent of a typical property tax bill, with the rest going to other taxing bodies.

Program terms and amounts can change from year to year, so read the Village's current notice before applying. If you want to know whether a rebate affects your federal return, ask a tax professional; property tax you pay is part of the state and local tax deduction.

Will County property tax

Will County's Treasurer bills a year in arrears. For the 2025 taxes, bills were mailed May 1, 2026, with the first installment due June 1 and the second due September 1, and the County lists interest that builds month by month on late payments under Illinois law. Your township assessor sets the starting value of your property, and the Will County Board of Review decides complaints. An appeal can lower the assessed value but does not change the rate applied to it. See our Will County page for the county offices.

Business taxes filed with the Village

The Village's finance page now accepts several tax payments online: the hotel and motel tax, the self-storage tax, the motor fuel tax and the food and beverage tax. These are separate from Illinois sales tax and from federal income tax, and they follow their own forms and due dates. The State's general sales tax rate is 6.25 percent; use the Tax Rate Finder on MyTax Illinois for the rate at a specific address and period.
