Glen Ellyn, IL tax help from a Naperville CPA firm: remote-work tax questions, village grocery and dining taxes, DuPage property tax and equity pay.

Reviewed October 2026 · Plain-language guide

Glen Ellyn has one of the highest shares of remote workers among the places we cover: roughly one in three working residents works from home, according to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates. That changes which tax questions matter most. This page covers the remote-work and equity-pay issues that tend to come up for households like these, along with the village's local taxes and the DuPage County property tax steps, and explains how a Naperville CPA firm can help.

A remote-work community

The American Community Survey (2020-2024 five-year estimates) counts about 28,400 residents. Median household income is about $141,000, about 68 percent of adults hold a bachelor's degree or higher and about 78 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Professional, scientific and administrative services employs about 21 percent of working residents, education and health care about 23 percent, and about 10 percent are self-employed. About 12 percent of residents were born outside the United States, and about 5 percent (roughly 1,300 people) identify as Asian Indian alone; for them, the US-India tax treaty guide is a useful start.

For remote workers, the practical questions include where an employer withholds state tax if its office is in another state, how a side business should be reported and whether a home office qualifies for a deduction. The home office deduction is aimed at people who are self-employed, and the rules for employees are different; see our home office deduction guide. If you work across state lines, our multi-state and local tax service and state income tax withholding guide explain the basics. If you receive stock options, RSUs or similar pay, see equity planning and management and stock options, ISOs, NSOs and RSUs.

Village taxes

The Village's Taxes and Fees page lists several locally collected taxes: a home rule sales tax, a food and beverage tax that includes packaged liquor, a hotel tax, a real estate transfer tax and utility taxes on electricity, natural gas and telecommunications. The Village's menu also lists a local grocery tax for 2026, which follows the end of the State's 1 percent grocery tax on January 1, 2026. Some details on the Village's pages differ between sections and some tables show older years, so confirm current rates with the Village's Finance Department before relying on any figure. The State's own rate on general merchandise is 6.25 percent, and the Tax Rate Finder on MyTax Illinois gives the official rate for an address and period.

Restaurants and bars register with the Village as retailers and file a monthly food and beverage return together with the state sales tax form; zero returns are required in months without receipts. See restaurants and retail.

DuPage property tax

DuPage County bills a year in arrears. For taxes billed in 2026, the Treasurer mailed one bill on April 29 with installments due June 1 and September 1. Township assessors set values, and the first two digits of a parcel number show the township. You can appeal to the DuPage Board of Review within 30 days after your township's roll is published, with comparable-property evidence; the appeal addresses assessed value, not the tax rate. See our DuPage County page and state and local tax deductions.
