Reviewed October 2026 · Plain-language guide

Westmont is a compact DuPage County village with a higher share of renters than most of its neighbors, a sizable immigrant community and a high share of self-employed residents. Its tax picture is simple on the village side: the Village lists a small set of taxes and says it has no real estate transfer tax. This page covers what Westmont does and does not tax, how DuPage property tax works here and what tends to matter for renters, landlords and families with ties abroad.

What the Village taxes

The Village of Westmont's Taxes page shows that its local menu is short. It lists a places for eating tax of 2 percent on food and beverages sold for immediate consumption, in effect since April 1, 2019, and it states there is no tax specific to gasoline and no tax specific to real estate transfers. A buyer or seller in Westmont therefore does not face a village transfer tax, though other transfer-related filings, such as the State's transfer declaration, still apply to a sale. The page also publishes the Village's own property tax levy rates and the Westmont library's, expressed as a percentage of equalized assessed value, for recent years. For sales tax, the State's rate on general merchandise is 6.25 percent, and the Tax Rate Finder on MyTax Illinois gives the right rate for an address and period.

Restaurant owners and caterers should see restaurants and retail and our sales and use tax service for how food taxes and tip reporting fit together.

Renters, landlords and homeowners

The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020-2024 five-year estimates) counts about 23,700 residents with a median age of about 43. About 55 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, so roughly 45 percent are rented. Median household income is about $88,000, and about 50 percent of adults hold a bachelor's degree or higher.

Tenants do not get a property tax bill of their own. Landlords report rent and expenses on Schedule E and should keep records for repairs, depreciation and mortgage interest; see rental property taxes. Owners get a DuPage County bill a year in arrears. Township assessors set values, the first two digits of the parcel number show the township, and the DuPage Board of Review hears appeals within 30 days after a township's roll is published. The appeal addresses the assessed value, not the rate. The Village's page labels the 2024 taxes as paid in June and September 2025, which shows the DuPage pattern of two installments. See DuPage County and state and local tax deductions.
