Lombard, IL tax help from a Naperville CPA firm: village amusement, hotel and dining taxes, DuPage property tax, payroll and US-India tax questions.

Reviewed October 2026 · Plain-language guide

Lombard is a DuPage County village between Glen Ellyn, Oak Brook and Villa Park, and it has an unusually clear tax page. The Village lists taxes on amusements, hotel stays, dining, telecommunications and sales, and it explains how little of a property tax bill stays with the Village. This page summarizes those items and explains how a Naperville CPA firm can help Lombard residents and business owners.

Village taxes in plain terms

According to the Village's Finance pages, these local taxes apply:

  • Amusement tax. 5 percent of gross receipts from amusement activities. The place offering the amusement owes it and can pass it to customers.
  • Hotel and motel tax. 5 percent on renting rooms in a hotel in Lombard, with a monthly return. A guest who stays at least 30 consecutive days is a permanent resident and exempt.
  • Places for eating tax. 2 percent of gross receipts on prepared food and beverages sold at retail, including carryout, in effect for taxes collected after January 1, 2017.
  • Telecommunications and utility taxes. Listed on the same tax information page.

The Village also describes a business improvement district around its major shopping area where an additional sales tax applies, and notes that sit-down restaurants also carry the 2 percent dining tax. The State's general sales tax rate is 6.25 percent. The Village publishes its own rate page, but the Illinois Department of Revenue's Tax Rate Finder on MyTax Illinois is the official source for an address and period, and the rate can change on January 1 and July 1. If you itemize deductions and choose the sales tax deduction, the Village page tells filers what to enter for the local rate; see state and local tax deductions. Restaurant, retail and entertainment owners should see restaurants and retail and our sales and use tax service.

Property tax in Lombard

The Village says it receives less than 8 percent of the total property tax bill, meaning less than 8 cents of each dollar goes to the Village for services such as police, fire, public works and code enforcement. The rest goes to other taxing bodies, such as schools. DuPage township assessors set values, and the first two digits of the parcel number identify the township. The York Township assessor's office is in Lombard. If you appeal, the DuPage Board of Review hears the case after your township's roll is published, and the appeal challenges the assessed value, not the rate. See our DuPage County page.
